If you stumbled upon this blog, there is a fairly good chance that you are also addicted to food and travel – well you’re in the right place!
Here we share the best (mostly) plant-based food around the world and how to make it at home. No judgment if you plan an entire vacation around the world’s best food.
OUR JOURNEY FROM MEAT TO PLANTS
Hey there, we are Linda & Abdurrahman, a Dutch girl and a Turkish guy. Together we decided that the rest of our lives was not going to consist of sitting in an office and desperately counting down to the weekend. We got tired of saving dreams for “later in life” and directly after our wedding we bought a one way ticket out of the country for an epic honeymoon around the world (hence the name two passports one journey).
Before starting traveling, we have always been meat eaters. We would eat meat every day (huge kebab and fried chicken fans!). When our friends and family heard we stopped eating meat they were shook.
We used to be one of those people thinking that vegetarians are crazy and vegans are a bunch of weirdos.
–How can they survive without meat?
–The only thing they eat are raw carrots and some lettuce.
–They must be hungry all the time!
It’s insane how much our thoughts have changed…
Our transition to a plant-based diet began during our trip to Vietnam. One of the common challenges faced by Muslim travelers is to find Halal meat (the slaughter and preparation of meat in accordance with Islamic practices). This gets a bit tricky when you’re on the hunt for food in a country that doesn’t have a Muslim majority. During our one month stay we were struggling so hard to find Halal meat, that we gave up and decided to eat only vegetarian dishes for the remaining time in Vietnam.
After cutting out meat, we slowly realized that the food choices we make have a direct impact on how we feel; suddenly waking up before the alarm, not sleepy after lunch and feeling super energetic. The more we learnt through documentaries and books, the more we started to become aware of the negative side effects animal products have on our health and the environment.
Making the switch to a plant-based diet changed our lives. Not only do we feel healthier than we’ve ever been, we have more energy, we think clearer and we feel stronger physically and mentally!
Thank you Vietnam, Cảm ơn rất nhiều!
THE TASTE OF A NEW DISH IS THE BEST TRAVEL SOUVENIR
The decision to go plant-based was an easy one. Figuring out what the heck to eat was not.
We enjoy learning how to cook truly authentic foods everywhere we travel. We take cooking classes, food tours, and ask chefs to share their secrets.
With our collection of easy plant-based recipes, you can now travel the world without leaving your kitchen.
We absolutely love seeing the food that you’re making. Please tag @twopassportsonejourney in your instagram photos and stories if you tried one of our recipes.
